We are currently researching some very interesting alternatives to the technology we are currently using in mediated classrooms. One in particular is the SMART Technology, that includes projectors but whiteboards that use touch technology. It is really neat. You can actually manipulate the board by touch. You can also write in electronic ink. [url=}http://www.smarttech.com/[/url]

the Problems with mediated classrooms
10.28.03 (9:12 am)   [edit]
In mediated classrooms there exists issues for both faculty and students. Equipment incompatibilities, maintenance, training, and overall classroom climate/ambience are some key issues to consider. The typical ODU mediated classroom experience includes the professor struggling with operating equipment. Typically there are technical problems with integration of sound, picture, and computer, and often a lecture is ruined because of the equipment. This frustrates the professor but ultimately the students are at a loss because they do not receive all the proper information.

In today’s modern learning environment multi-media classrooms are a necessity and not just a luxury. ODU’s mediated classrooms should run smoothly for the faculty but ultimately for the students.
